It was alleged that before the Super Cup match, Kerem Aktürkoğlu approached Emirhan Arkutcu and said, “When the match starts, we will kick the ball out of bounds, if you start, you also kick it out, whatever happens.” Arkutcu reportedly conveyed these words to his teammates.
Emirhan Arkutcu expressed his astonishment after Icardi‘s goal with the following words:
“Galatasaray player Kerem Aktürkoğlu told me they would kick the ball out, but they didn’t. They also celebrated after scoring a goal. They deceived us.”
GALATASARAY COACH OKAN BURUK: WHY SHOULD WE KICK THE BALL OUT? ARE WE THE ONES PROTESTING?
Fenerbahçe’s withdrawal from the Super Cup match made a mark. While it was alleged that the Yellow-Navy Blues planned to withdraw from the field as soon as the match stopped, Galatasaray scored a goal in their first attack.
Before the kick-off of the goal, Fenerbahçe U19 team withdrew from the field, and the Super Cup match was suspended.
Speaking to Milliyet, Okan Buruk expressed that they didn’t know what Fenerbahçe would do.
Buruk stated, “Were they going to stop, or were they going to score a goal and then withdraw? We wanted to take the first ball by flipping a coin to see what they were going to do.”
Okan Buruk stated that Fenerbahçe players first started active defense and then pressing, “How would we know that they didn’t want to score a goal and withdraw?” he said.
“As for why we didn’t kick the ball out of bounds; am I the one protesting? We are the ones who want to play the match, and if we had sent the ball out of bounds, then we would have supported Fenerbahçe’s protest.”
