Fenerbahçe has issued its first statement regarding the 4-match suspension imposed on head coach Jose Mourinho by the Professional Football Discipline Committee (PFDK). Alper Alpoğlu, Fenerbahçe’s Board Member responsible for legal affairs, argued that the decision was unlawful and made striking comments.
In an interview on TRT Spor’s Sports Headlines program, Alper Alpoğlu addressed the situation:
“Our coach was referred to the PFDK for two separate infractions, resulting in a 4-match ban (2+2). We consider this unlawful and will appeal. Our opponent distorted a word used by our coach, misleading the public with a baseless legal argument. These decisions were not unanimous.”
“We do not believe that our coach’s words were insulting or unsportsmanlike. We are facing this punishment as a result of our opponent’s perception campaign. We will go to the Arbitration Committee. We know that the decision was not unanimous, and some PFDK members disagreed.”
“We find PFDK’s decision unlawful. They issued a punishment for insult and unsportsmanlike conduct based on a distorted interpretation. This was also decided by a majority vote. Of course, PFDK has the authority for this. We will immediately appeal to the Arbitration Committee, where we believe the right decision will be made.”
