Hulusi Belgü on Cup Derby: “We Want a Foreign Referee”
Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray have been drawn against each other in the Ziraat Turkish Cup quarter-finals. Fenerbahçe board member Hulusi Belgü shared his thoughts on the draw during a broadcast.
Wishing for an exciting match, Belgü stated:
“May it be a good and fair match. May the best team win. Of course, it’s an important game—every match between these two teams is significant. We hope it will be a great contest.”
Belgü also highlighted that Fenerbahçe is still competing on three fronts:
“We thank our technical staff and players. They are not letting us down. We are continuing in three competitions. Today’s match is also very important. Europe is a big priority for us. Hopefully, we will take Fenerbahçe as far as possible in all of them. Our fans will be our driving force.”
Regarding the referee selection for the derby, Belgü reiterated Fenerbahçe’s stance on foreign referees:
“Our position is very clear. We strongly believe that all derbies should be officiated by foreign referees. We don’t see any benefit in Turkish football being constantly occupied with referee controversies. We want and support the presence of a foreign referee in this match and all future derbies.”
