Post-Match Press Conference: Mourinho Talks About Fenerbahçe’s Progress and Next Steps

After Fenerbahçe‘s 4-2 win against Bodrum FK in the Super Lig, following the international break, Mourinho shared his thoughts in a press conference.

Mourinho pointed out that it is normal for a team to go a long time without conceding a goal. He stated, “As a team, we performed well. It was unlucky for us that the referees were not in Glasgow tonight. We had clear penalties there that were not given. But tonight, penalties were awarded, and we conceded the first goal this way. In the second goal, the score was 4-1. I don’t think the two goals we conceded were dramatic.”

‘SAINT-MAXIMIN NEEDED DEVELOPMENT’

Mourinho mentioned that Allan Saint-Maximin made his return to the pitch after a long time. “Maximin was not physically fit. We gave him a chance to improve during the international break. Tonight, he played 20 minutes. His performance was like the team’s. When he entered the game, the team’s performance had dropped, and he played during that period,” he commented.

‘I DON’T CARE ABOUT THE FOREIGN REFEREE ISSUE’

Regarding the upcoming Turkish Cup match against Galatasaray, Mourinho said they would start preparations from Sunday. He added, “My opinion on having a foreign referee for the match doesn’t matter. It won’t change anything. I am not Turkish, I am a foreigner. I came here to work. I can’t change anything, so I can’t comment. The VAR referee for tonight’s match was foreign, and he was Portuguese. He gave a strange penalty. We will play the cup match on Wednesday, and everything will be clear after that. I know both teams’ main target is the league, but we want to win.”

‘OUR CHANCE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP CONTINUES’

Mourinho also mentioned that the match against Bodrum FK was difficult after the international break. “Now, we will rest tomorrow. The match was tough because it was difficult to play on Friday after the international break. Amrabat and En-Nesyri, who play for Morocco, played their international matches at midnight on Tuesday. They are tired, so tomorrow we will rest, and on Sunday we will work. Our chance for the championship is still alive, but I can’t give a percentage. Since the beginning of the season, we’ve seen a tendency to move forward against the wind. Winning the Trabzonspor match will be very important for us because Galatasaray will have a bye week,” he concluded.
