New Scandal in Turkey: The Man Who Suspended Mourinho Wears a Galatasaray Jersey – Photo Goes Viral

The person who decided to suspend José Mourinho for four matches (two of which were overturned yesterday by the Turkish federation following Fenerbahçe’s appeal, with one already served) has been seen in a now-viral photo wearing a Galatasaray jersey.

That man is lawyer Celal Nuri Demirtürk, the chairman of the federation’s disciplinary committee. Turkish media describe him as an experienced and serious professional, and that may well be true. However, given the storm that erupted after the Istanbul derby—with the wild accusations of racism against Mourinho, the suspension, and Mourinho’s lawsuit for moral damages—such a photo is bound to cause a stir.

It also raises many questions about the rest of the season, as the title race is still alive, with Fenerbahçe trailing Galatasaray by six points. Moreover, Mourinho’s team is still competing in the Europa League (where they could potentially face Roma in the quarter-finals) and in the Turkish Cup.
