Changes at squad
In the 6th and final week of the UEFA Europa Conference League Group H, Fenerbahçe hosted Slovakia’s Spartak Trnava, and the team’s head coach, İsmail Kartal, made three forced changes to his starting 11 compared to the last Beşiktaş derby they played in the league.
In the match held at Ülker Stadium, the experienced coach assigned Jayden Oosterwolde in place of Samet Akaydın, who played in the starting 11 against Beşiktaş but was not included in the UEFA squad.
The 62-year-old coach made other changes in goal and midfield. Kartal placed Miguel Crespo, who started in the Beşiktaş derby, on the bench, giving a chance to İsmail Yüksek. In goal, İrfan Can Eğribayat played instead of Dominik Livakovic.
Against Spartak Trnava, Kartal fielded İrfan Can Eğribayat in goal and formed the defensive quartet with Bright Osayi-Samuel, Jayden Oosterwolde, Alexander Djiku, and Ferdi Kadıoğlu. In the midfield duo, İsmail Yüksek and Fred Rodrigues played, while the attacking trio consisted of İrfan Can Kahveci, Sebastian Szymanski, and Dusan Tadic. Once again, Edin Dzeko was trusted in the goal-scoring department.
Irfan Can Eğribayat, 9 matches later, back in goal
Fenerbahçe’s young goalkeeper, İrfan Can Eğribayat, has returned to the field after a gap of 9 matches.
Since joining the yellow-navy team, İrfan Can has earned the fans’ love by making good use of the opportunities he received. However, after the transfer of Dominik Livakovic, he had taken on the role of the second goalkeeper.
Despite this, the 25-year-old goalkeeper, who mostly found playing time in European matches, had not been featured in the last 2 group-stage games.
Having missed a total of 8 official matches, including 6 in the league and 2 in Europe, İrfan Can started in the Spartak Trnava match.
İrfan Can’s last appearance was in the match against Ludogorets on October 26th.
Serdar Aziz is back
Fenerbahçe’s experienced defender, Serdar Aziz, has overcome his injury and rejoined the team.
Serdar, who last played in the match against Spartak Trnava away on October 5th, had subsequently been sidelined due to an injury.
The 33-year-old defender returned to the squad with this match, starting on the bench.
