Fenerbahçe’s Path in Europa League: Potential Opponents Revealed
After being eliminated from the Champions League, Fenerbahçe has transitioned to the UEFA Europa League and will enter the draw from the second pot.
After being eliminated by France’s Lille, Fenerbahçe has exited the Champions League and will now continue their campaign in the UEFA Europa League.
UEFA is implementing a new format in its tournaments this season. In the Europa League, there will be a 36-team league, but each team will only play 8 matches.
Even though Fenerbahçe will participate in the draw from the 2nd pot, this doesn’t hold much significance anymore. Each team will face two opponents from each pot, including their own, playing 8 matches—4 at home and 4 away. Teams finishing in the top 8 of the league will advance directly to the Round of 16, while those finishing between 9th and 24th place will enter a Play-Off round against each other.
According to Fanatik Newspaper, although the elimination phase of the Europa League is still ongoing, some of Fenerbahçe’s potential opponents have already been identified.
Four clubs where Jose Mourinho once managed—Porto, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Roma—could be matched with Fenerbahçe. Additionally, teams like Frankfurt, Sociedad, Lyon, Olympiakos, Athletic Bilbao, and Nice are also among the Yellow Canaries‘ potential opponents.
