Mourinho gave an exclusive interview to Sky Sports, where his remarks about Galatasaray and Okan Buruk drew attention.

“They Were Not Smart in Attacking Me”

Speaking about Galatasaray’s racism accusations, Mourinho said:
“They were not smart in attacking me because they didn’t know my background. They didn’t know about my connections with Africa, African people, African players, and African charities. That’s why this issue backfired on them like a boomerang instead of hurting me.”

“Everyone Knows What Kind of Person I Am”

Reiterating that he is not racist, the Portuguese coach stated:
“Everyone knows what kind of person I am. Everyone knows my flaws, but this is not one of them. Most importantly, I know who I am, and accusing me of racism was a poor choice.”

On the racism accusations, Mourinho concluded:
“I just thought to myself: how could they sink this low?”

“I Will Not Lower Myself to Okan Buruk’s Level”

Mourinho was also asked whether he regretted his “jumping like monkeys” remark. Referring to Okan Buruk, he responded:
“I will not lower myself to his level.”

“Sometimes I ask myself, why did you do that, José? Why did you stoop to that level?” and added, “It was just sad.”
