Fenerbahçe’s Journey in UEFA Europa League: Possible Opponents Announced!

Fenerbahçe, who continues their journey in the UEFA Europa League, has learned their potential opponents for the league stage. The Yellow-Navy Blues will participate in the draw from the second pot, which will take place on August 30th.

The draw for the 2024/25 season of the will be held on August 30th. After exiting the in the 3rd qualifying round, Fenerbahçe secured their spot in the Europa League.

The second legs of the Europa League play-off round will conclude on Thursday, August 29th. After these matches, the teams that will compete in the league stage of the UEFA Europa League will be determined.

FROM WHICH POT WILL FENERBAHÇE PARTICIPATE IN THE DRAW?

Fenerbahçe will be placed in the 2nd pot for the draw on Friday, August 30th. With the new format of the Europa League, each group will consist of 2 teams from each pot in the league stage.

FENERBAHÇE’S POTENTIAL OPPONENTS

Before the second legs of the play-off matches, Fenerbahçe’s confirmed potential opponents include , Manchester United, , Rangers, Eintracht Frankfurt, , , Real Sociedad, AZ Alkmaar, , Lyon, SG, Dynamo Kyiv, Malmö, Athletic Bilbao, , Nice, and Twente.

THE NEW FORMAT OF THE EUROPA LEAGUE

UEFA announced that the new format for European competitions would take effect this season. In the revised format, the number of teams in the tournaments will increase from 32 to 36. With the rise in the number of teams, the group stage is abolished, and teams advancing to the round of 16 will be determined after the league stage.

LEAGUE STAGE SYSTEM

Following the draw, 8 matches will be scheduled for each of the 36 teams in the league stage. The top 8 teams at the end of these matches will advance directly to the round of 16. Teams ranked between 9th and 24th after 8 matches will play in a playoff round. After the playoffs, 8 additional teams will join the round of 16.

The draw for the UEFA Europa League will be held on August 30th, with the pairings determined with the support of special software. The fixture for the 2024/25 season of the Europa League will be announced on August 31st.

The season will kick off with matches on September 25th and 26th. The final of Europe’s second-tier club competition will be played on May 21st at the San Mames Stadium.

So far, 20 teams have secured their participation in the Europa League, while the remaining 16 teams will be determined after the second legs of the Champions League and Europa League play-off rounds.
