British Media Links Mourinho to Potential Newcastle Role if Eddie Howe Departs
A striking claim has emerged in the British media about Fenerbahçe’s manager Jose Mourinho. It was suggested that the Portuguese coach may be considering a return to the Premier League, with a specific club named as his possible destination.
Following Fenerbahçe‘s 3-2 victory over Trabzonspor, Mourinho‘s comments on Turkish football made international headlines, sparking speculation abroad.
According to The Guardian, in an article titled “José Mourinho wants Newcastle manager’s job if Eddie Howe leaves”, Mourinho hinted at his dissatisfaction in Turkey after the Trabzonspor match. The report stated that, despite taking charge of Fenerbahçe only this summer, Mourinho is reportedly keeping an eye on new opportunities.
It is claimed that Mourinho has maintained contact with intermediaries to stay updated on developments at Newcastle United. The experienced coach reportedly met with Newcastle’s chairman Yasir al-Rumayyan at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in March and has kept in touch since.
Further evidence of Mourinho’s longing for the Premier League is said to be his warm approach to British journalists before Fenerbahçe’s match against Manchester United.
Newcastle United’s current manager, Eddie Howe, is reportedly not in a secure position, as the club‘s Saudi owners are keen to see Newcastle compete in the Champions League. The Guardian also noted that, prior to Newcastle’s recent victory over Arsenal, the team had been on a five-game winless streak.
However, Howe is expected to keep Newcastle in the running for European competition, making an imminent departure unlikely.
