Fenerbahçe faced Russian side Zenit in a friendly during the international break and secured a 2-1 victory. Levent Mercan, a summer signing, had been struggling for game time with the team. Before this match, the 23-year-old left-back had played only 10 minutes in the Süper Lig, coming on as a substitute against Çaykur Rizespor.

Starting in the Zenit game, Mercan seized the opportunity and scored his first goal for Fenerbahçe. In the 63rd minute, after carrying the ball out from defense, he combined with Dusan Tadic before striking with his right foot just inside the penalty area to put his team ahead.
