In the second week of the Trendyol Süper Lig, during the Göztepe–Fenerbahçe match, the defendant who pushed Fenerbahçe Sports Club President Ali Koç, causing him to fall, was sentenced to 7 months and 15 days in prison.
DEFENDANT REQUESTED ACQUITTAL
The trial took place at the Izmir 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance, with the defendant, Fatih Özkan, who was under house arrest, and the lawyers of both parties in attendance. During the trial, the prosecutor stated that their opinion was ready and requested that Özkan, who had an accreditation card as the TFF Göztepe AŞ fan representative, be punished for causing Ali Koç to fall by pushing him from behind. In his final defense at the court, Özkan requested acquittal, stating, “It was an incident that developed suddenly. Millions watched the footage; my intention was to remove him from the field. He fell as a result of being pushed disproportionately. My intention was not to harm him.”
7 MONTHS AND 15 DAYS IN PRISON
The judge sentenced the defendant, Özkan, to 6 months in prison for the charge of “intentional simple injury” against Ali Koç in a sports area. Since the crime occurred in a sports area, the sentence was increased by 1/2, raising it to 9 months. The judge applied a discretionary reduction and reduced the sentence by 1/6, resulting in a 7-month and 15-day prison sentence.
