Mosturoğlu Targets Corruption in Turkish Football, Demands Accountability

The meeting, held at Fenerbahçe Faruk Ilgaz Facilities in Kalamış, was attended by club president Ali Koç, board members, YDK president Şekip Mosturoğlu, and other members.

After a moment of silence and the national anthem, Şekip Mosturoğlu delivered the opening speech, calling for unity and solidarity.

He noted that there are numerous issues in football, and the root of these problems is the deteriorated institutional structure of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF). “Unless the football’s deteriorated institutional structure is renewed according to modern conditions, there will be no talk of trust in Turkish football. Today, very few clubs, other than Fenerbahçe, are working to solve these problems. Some of our clubs are pleased with the system that creates problems because it produces favorable results for them. In a field where billions of liras are spent each season, and limitless sacrifices are made, sporting success must be achieved through fair play on the field,” he stated.

Mosturoğlu emphasized that the system had deteriorated over many years and continued:

“There are those who feed off this corrupt system and have become successful through it. They have no intention of changing this broken system. Their call for the resignation of TFF and MHK is not to change the current system but to preserve the corrupt system. Their aim is to manage the unfair system with their own teams. They are engaged in an existential battle against us for the continuation of the existing unfair system. Every negative outcome that arises brings favorable results for them. We, on the other hand, are in favor of fixing the current system in such a way that it doesn’t cause problems, regardless of individuals. Those benefiting from the current broken system hide behind the lie that the ideological conflict stems from the competition between two clubs. While we focus on the common interests of Turkish football, our opponent, who benefits from this system, has placed his own benefit and interests at the center of this system. While we fight for Turkish football’s interests against illegal betting, double contracts, black market tickets, unregistered earnings, and sponsorships, our opponent is making efforts to stop us. Our fight is not only for ourselves but for the collective gain of Turkish football.”

Şekip Mosturoğlu also highlighted the recent meeting between Fenerbahçe president Ali Koç and the club’s former president Aziz Yıldırım:

“Both of our presidents held productive meetings for the present and future of our club. This meeting is crucial for ensuring Fenerbahçe’s unity and solidarity. Both presidents’ personal priority is Fenerbahçe’s success. The vision and values they possess are Fenerbahçe’s wealth. This partnership is an important milestone in Fenerbahçe’s history. Most of the difficulties we face in football are due to the current football climate. Our president Ali Koç and our management are making great efforts to change this climate. In every area we are fighting, we must be perfect, unlike the competitors who are pushed from behind. Our president and management have made every sacrifice to ensure all our teams are flawless. During this period of stable victories, we must all support our management by putting Fenerbahçe’s interests above all else.”
