Miguel Crespo: “We made a good start to the year 2024”

Portuguese player Miguel Crespo from Fenerbahçe commented on the unplayed Super Cup match, saying, “We would have preferred it to be played. We were ready to play to win, but due to reasons beyond our control, it didn’t happen. Now we will focus on the upcoming league matches.”

In the 19th week of the Trendyol Super Lig, Fenerbahçe defeated Istanbulspor 5-1 away, and Portuguese player Miguel Crespo stated that they made a good start to the year 2024 with a 5-goal victory and expressed their desire to continue in the same way.

Crespo, speaking to the press after the match played at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium, mentioned that they were very happy with the result.

Expressing their aim for victory against Istanbulspor and their success in achieving it, the Portuguese player said, “We delivered a good performance. We scored 5 goals and made a good start to the year. We want to continue in this way.”

Speaking about the Super Cup Final planned to be played in Saudi Arabia on December 29 but ultimately not played, Crespo said:

Responding to a question about Fenerbahçe’s rivalry with Galatasaray, Crespo continued:

“I think the season will continue to be competitive in this way. What we need to do is simple; we just need to win our matches. If we win our matches, we become champions. We only focus on our own business and don’t care about what Galatasaray is doing. We just want to elevate our performance as much as possible.”

Expressing his happiness for Cengiz Ünder, who scored 4 out of the 5 goals for Fenerbahçe, Crespo stated that the national team player deserves the best in everything and said, “He had a fantastic performance today and scored 4 goals. I hope he continues like this. Cengiz has the quality and potential, and I am very happy for him.”

Crespo emphasized that there is no pressure on him when Fred doesn’t play, stating, “I try to do my best regardless of the position I play. Fred is, of course, a player of very high quality. Having him on the field is an important asset for us. Everyone on the field is doing their best. What matters to us is always Fenerbahçe continuing on its path by winning.”
