Acun Ilıcalı Opens Up About Fenerbahçe and Hull City in Exclusive Interview
Fenerbahçe’s vice president and the owner of Championship team Hull City, Acun Ilıcalı, gave an interview in England. Ilıcalı made noteworthy statements about the future of the English team and Fenerbahçe.
In his interview with Hull Live, Acun Ilıcalı discussed Hull City‘s transfer plans and shared insights about Fenerbahçe. Here are Ilıcalı’s statements:
JONAS MEFFERT TRANSFER FROM HAMBURG (HULL CITY)
“Yes, we are interested in him (Meffert). Tim wants him specifically for his philosophy. He says that Meffert is a very important player, and what is important for Tim is also important for us, so we want to see him on our team. If everything goes well, I think we will see him at Hull City, most likely within a few days.”
YOU HAVE HAD A PERSONALLY CHALLENGING SUMMER. WITH EVERYTHING HAPPENING OUTSIDE OF HULL CITY, DO YOU STILL ENJOY OWNING THIS CLUB?
“As you and the fans know, I believe my life is one of a kind in the world. It’s extremely intense, I always tell my friends this. My work with Fenerbahçe won’t take up more than 20% of my life. This club (Hull City), the fans, and everyone here are my life right now. What we’re trying to do now, of course, is to create a better team.”
“Life is very tough. I was in a meeting somewhere in Turkey, then flew to Istanbul, then came here. I’ll fly back to Istanbul again, and then take a two-hour flight to the east of Turkey for an away match with Fenerbahçe, and then return. This is the life I’m living right now, but I need to emphasize something. I enjoy it. That’s why I choose this life.”
“I’ve been a Fenerbahçe fan since I was five years old, and now I’m the vice president. This is another honor for me. That’s why, after the first chapter of my life (the period when I lost my parents), I feel lucky, and I’m really enjoying the second chapter.”
“Whenever I come here, it feels like paradise. I feel the energy of this town, this city, everything is green. I come here from a city like Istanbul, with 22 million people, and it always feels like therapy to me.”
WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE TO THE FANS IN THE FINAL WEEK OF THE TRANSFER WINDOW?
“They will see a team they can be proud of on the field. I guarantee them that they will be proud of this team this year, and no matter where we finish in the league, we will all enjoy watching football together this year.”
