Acun Ilıcalı Confident in Mourinho: “He Will Make the Required Adjustments”
Fenerbahçe Vice President Acun Ilıcalı made statements after the 3-1 loss in the Galatasaray derby. Ilıcalı said, "Jose Mourinho will make the necessary adjustments."
Speaking after the Galatasaray derby, Ilıcalı said, “From our perspective, there is no sense of being out of the race, no despair or pessimism. It’s just a road mishap. A game can be lost.”
He added:
“We are all very sad. One game doesn’t decide a championship. Our team’s play is very positive. Statistically, we were ahead. Of course, football is a game of results, and we lost. Last year, we were 5 points ahead, and it didn’t bring the championship. Being 5 points behind now doesn’t mean we are out of the race. We are Fenerbahçe, a strong community. One defeat won’t shake this community. We are satisfied with our squad and our coach, and we trust them. There is no sense of giving up or pessimism from our side. It’s a road mishap. A game can be lost.
What matters is the football we played. We had 4-5 chances. Statistically, we had double the numbers in goal-scoring opportunities. I focus on the gameplay. In this case, I am optimistic about the future, though today, I am very sad.
We don’t want to look back; we are looking forward. We won’t dwell on the past. Starting tomorrow, we will resume working towards the future. I am saying, anyone involved in football knows that this period in mid-September cannot determine an 8-month season. The path to success lies in correcting mistakes and moving the team forward.
Jose Mourinho will make the necessary adjustments.
A player may not play very well. Did Osimhen play great today? En-Nesyri didn’t play well either. Forwards don’t get many chances in derbies. There’s no need to single out individual performances. It would be unfair to criticize a player. They used to say Oosterwolde wasn’t a player, but look where he is now. İrfan Can was booed, and look where he is today. I am optimistic about the future. Our fans are upset, but we will rise from this together and move forward.
There were a few minor incidents in the protocol stand. It’s the tension of the match. There’s always some tension, but nothing abnormal happened.
There are still 90 points left. We can reach the same point total. There’s no need for big calculations. It’s just one match; we lost, and we are moving on. I don’t see any lack of motivation in the team.
Watch the match, and you’ll get tired just from watching our chances.”
