Dzeko Reflects on Italy Career and Working with Mourinho

Fenerbahçe's experienced striker Edin Dzeko said he was very happy to have worked with José Mourinho and revealed that the Portuguese coach did not want him to leave Roma. Dzeko stated, "What he says holds great value. I am very proud to have worked with him here."

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Edin Dzeko reflected on his time playing in Italy and praised Fenerbahçe’s coach José Mourinho.

Dzeko, who played for both Roma and Inter in Serie A, spoke about his time in Italy: “I remember my first match at Roma’s Olimpico Stadium after transferring to Inter. We won 3-0, and I scored a goal. I felt the support of both teams’ fans. Olimpico was my home. It was a powerful emotion I hadn’t felt before. I definitely felt that winning at Roma would be harder than what I experienced at Inter.”

When asked about Roma’s new striker Artem Dovbyk, Dzeko responded, “I know better than anyone how complex Serie A is. He was the top scorer in Spain last year. He struggled a bit at first, but like me, he didn’t give up, and now things are easier for him. I was also criticized in the beginning. I didn’t give up. I could have left after my first year in Italy, which would have been the easiest choice. But I wanted to prove myself.”

Speaking about José Mourinho, Dzeko said, “To be honest, before going to Roma, I worked with him there for a month. He wasn’t happy about me leaving and made that clear to me.”

The experienced striker added, “José is a great man with incredible charisma. Even as an opponent, I was always there to listen to him when he spoke. What he says has immense value. I am very proud to have worked with him here.”
