Fenerbahçe Captain Edin Dzeko Speaks on Beşiktaş Derby and Title Race

Fenerbahçe's star Edin Dzeko made statements, responding to questions from Ekol TV.

Fenerbahçe’s spoke to Ekol TV, sharing his thoughts on the title race and the upcoming Beşiktaş on Saturday.

DERBY COMMENTS

“Derbies are always derbies. There are no favorites in derbies. Sometimes, even if a is going through a tough period, a derby victory can make their forget everything. I think this is an opportunity for Beşiktaş. They have good players, and it won’t be an easy match. Beşiktaş is a very good team with talented players, although they’re not in the best form right now. Hopefully, that will continue in our match. We need to focus on our game and ourselves. It won’t be an easy match.”

TITLE RACE

“Two teams are ahead of the others right now. At the moment, it seems like it’s just us and Galatasaray, but there’s still a long way to go. The derby match is very important for us, and we need to focus on that game for now.”

FENERBAHÇE

was already a famous team before and I arrived. When big names join, it makes the team even more renowned. But what will make you even more famous are the trophies you win. At the start of the season, things were different. When I came here, I signed a two-year contract. Every day I spend here, I want to give my best. The past doesn’t matter. We in the present, and what we do now is what’s important.”

CHAMPIONSHIP

“My job is to do my best on the field, and the expects that from me. It’s not normal for a club like Fenerbahçe to go 10 years without a . Last season, despite getting 99 points, we couldn’t win the league. Perhaps it’s the first time something like that has happened in history. It was shameful for a team to give its all and still not be champions.”

RETIREMENT

“I’m definitely not retiring. Age is just a number. I still have a lot to give to football. What matters is how you feel on the field and in training. Right now, I’m not considering becoming a coach.”

“NOT SIGNING THE JERSEY WAS A MISTAKE”

“I was criticized, but people see what they want to see. People post what they want to highlight on social media. Yesterday, we were at a charity match in Pendik, which included Kayserispor and Galatasaray. I signed jerseys for Galatasaray fans there and took photos with them. I was just joking and trying to be funny with that kid. Not signing the jersey was a mistake, I admit it. Of course, everyone has the right to support the team they want.”

TURKEY

“We feel close to Turkey. Our language shares over 2,000 words. We’ve always seen Turkey as a brotherly nation. I want to bring this love from Bosnia to Turkey.”
