Mourinho Reveals Why He Joined Fenerbahçe Without Waiting a Year
Jose Mourinho has opened up about his decision to join Fenerbahçe, citing the club's immediate and genuine interest in him as a key factor. In a candid interview, Mourinho shared that he didn’t wait for the "perfect opportunity" because of his love for football, praising Fenerbahçe for their unwavering support from day one.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, Mourinho discussed his time in Italy and his move to Fenerbahçe. Regarding his transition, he stated:
“Why didn’t I wait a year for a new team? Because I love football and my job. I didn’t want to wait for the perfect opportunity. Many people say they want a break, but I said yes to a club that showed they wanted me from day one.”
When asked, “What were your best and worst moments in 2024?” he replied:
“The best was my daughter’s wedding—an incredible moment, and I’m so happy for them. The worst was leaving Roma.”
Reflecting on his career achievements, Mourinho said:
“In recent years, I’ve reached three finals—one with Manchester United and two with Roma. I look back on them with pride because when you achieve such things with a club without a strong European history, it feels truly special.”
Addressing regrets, Mourinho admitted:
“Do I have regrets? When it comes to matches, many, because you always think you could have done something differently. Professionally, my regret is saying no to Florentino Perez. He told me, ‘Mou, don’t leave now; you’ve overcome the hard part, and the best is yet to come.’ I knew he was right, but after three intense years in Spain, I wanted to return to Chelsea.”
On his departure from Roma, Mourinho added:
“After the Budapest final, I should have left Roma—not because of the chaos caused by Anthony Taylor but because staying was the wrong decision. Will I coach in Italy again? Certainly.”
