Shameful Scenes in Belgium: Anderlecht Fans’ Racist Attack Halts Fenerbahçe Match
The UEFA Europa League match between Anderlecht and Fenerbahçe was halted in the 6th minute. Referees and players left the pitch and headed to the locker rooms following an attack on Fenerbahçe supporters and racist chants from the stands. After a brief pause, the match resumed from the point where it had stopped.
Fenerbahçe faced Belgian side Anderlecht in the second leg of the Europa League play-off round.
The Yellow-Navy Blues took an early lead in the 4th minute with a goal from Youssef En-Nesyri.
However, in the 7th minute, the match was suspended as referees and players left the pitch.
ATTACK ON FENERBAHÇE FANS
Following the suspension, an announcement was made in the stadium due to racist chants from the stands.
The announcement warned that if the racist behavior continued, the match would be abandoned.
According to TRT Spor, the match was stopped due to an attack on Fenerbahçe supporters.
At the time, stadium screens displayed the message:
“Due to the racist behavior of some spectators, which negatively affects the match, the referee has stated that he may have to suspend the game. If racist behavior continues, there is no doubt that the match will be stopped and abandoned.”
TEAMS RETURNED TO THE PITCH AFTER 15 MINUTES
Fifteen minutes after the suspension, both teams returned to the field.
Players from both sides resumed their warm-ups, and the match continued shortly after from where it had left off.
