Djiku Reflects on Fenerbahçe’s Victory Against Lugano: “We Will Get Even Better”
Following Fenerbahçe's 2-1 victory against Lugano in the UEFA Champions League 2nd Qualifying Round, Alexander Djiku made comments on their intense work and the team's potential for improvement over time.
Fenerbahçe, having defeated Lugano 4-3 away, secured their spot in the 3rd qualifying round with another 2-1 win at home. One of Fenerbahçe‘s stars, Alexander Djiku, shared his thoughts after the match.
Highlighting the team’s future potential, Djiku said, “Looking at our pre-season work, we’ve been training intensely physically. I believe we will reach a much better point over time. Honestly, we didn’t start the match well. We couldn’t put our energy into play effectively and unfortunately conceded a goal in the first half. We knew our potential and what we could do offensively, and as a result, we created many chances. In the second half, we first equalized at 1-1 and then completed the match with a winning goal.”
Discussing the numerous options in defense, Alexander Djiku stated, “Honestly, we have a lot of options. We are working on many options. Sometimes when we play with a back three, I change positions. My teammates in defense can change positions as well. When we play with a back three, I can move to the left. We are working on and trying to develop many options. I believe we will be able to show these much better in the next match.”
Finally, touching on the upcoming Lille encounter, the successful defender said, “I know the Lille team very well. I’ve played against them many times. They have made a coaching change. The previous coach preferred more pressing play. Now they play in a different style. It will be tough but a good match. The chances are 50-50. It will be a quality match. Lille is a good and strong team. We are also a big club with a good team. Of course, we need to show our greatness on the field.”
