Edin Dzeko on Lugano Win: “Every Match in Europe is Tough”
In the match where Fenerbahçe came from behind to defeat Lugano, Edin Dzeko, who scored the equalizing goal for his team, made statements after the game and also touched on the competition among the forwards.
Fenerbahçe managed to advance to the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League by defeating Lugano 2-1 at home, following a 4-3 away victory. Dzeko, who stood out with a hat-trick in the away match, also scored the equalizing goal for his team at home.
Evaluating the match, Edin Dzeko said, “Looking at it this way, everything seems very good; 2 wins, 4 goals, it was honestly hard for us, I expected it to be easier. There are no easy matches in European and especially Champions League games. We talked among ourselves before the match, saying we shouldn’t underestimate the opponent. Because they are a team that tries to play football, and they showed it today. But we didn’t give up. We conceded an early goal, which disrupted us a bit and gave them confidence. We continued to be patient. Especially after falling behind 1-0, it was a great victory for us.”
When asked about the competition for playing time with Youssef En-Nesyri and Cenk Tosun, the striker said, “As you mentioned, they are both quality and experienced players. It’s very important that they have experience playing in Europe. Because we will play many matches, and we will need everyone. During periods where we play every three days, it is necessary to rotate players and play with different ones because you can get tired, and having a fresh player is very good for the team. What is good for the team, what benefits Fenerbahçe, is also good for me. I hope En-Nesyri gets physically fit as soon as possible and joins us because our tough matches are starting. We will play against Lille, and the league is starting. Cenk is ready. I also hope that Fred does not suffer a long-term injury and that it is not serious because we need him.”
