Mourinho Takes Aim at Galatasaray: “Only They Don’t Get Cards in Turkiye”
Fenerbahçe's head coach, Jose Mourinho, spoke after their 3-0 victory against Alanyaspor.
Mourinho emphasized that he has not yet been informed by the management about the Sofyan Amrabat transfer and explained the reason for this. The Portuguese coach also took a jab at their arch-rivals, Galatasaray.
In the 4th week of the Trendyol Süper Lig, Fenerbahçe defeated Corendon Alanyaspor 3-0. Following the match, Fenerbahçe’s coach, Jose Mourinho, evaluated the win.
Mourinho’s statements to beIN Sports are as follows:
“I DIDN’T LIKE THE 15-20 MINUTES OF THE SECOND HALF”
“Like everyone else, I respectfully celebrate today. I congratulate all the Turkish people on the August 30 Victory Day. Today, we deserved the win, but I didn’t like 15-20 minutes of the second half. I knew it wouldn’t be easy to maintain the pressure we applied in the first half for the full 90 minutes. We had a bit of a dip in the second half. When you experience such a dip against a team that likes to play with the ball and keep possession, you give them a chance to survive. But after we found the second goal, we finished the game.”
“WE WORKED ON THIS PRESSURE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK”
“The team has developed in terms of tactical football culture. This means that the team’s ability to execute different things and plans has improved. I had watched our opponents in the Başakşehir match and saw how much they liked to build up play and keep possession. Therefore, we worked on this pressure throughout the week. While applying this pressure, we took a lot of risks. We left our defense one-on-one many times. This is how we wanted our game to be. It’s unfortunate we couldn’t score more goals in the first half. The game could have actually been decided in the first half as well. In the second half, we gave them a chance to come back to life, and they caused us problems.”
“OUR PRESIDENT DID NOT INFORM ME ABOUT THE TRANSFER BEFORE THE MATCH BECAUSE HE KNOWS WHAT I’M LIKE”
“Our president and directors know what kind of person I am. Therefore, they did not inform me about this transfer (the Amrabat transfer) before the match. They knew my sole focus would be on the game. Now that the match is over, they will inform me about this transfer. But one thing I know is that I have a good team and a strong squad.”
“I CONGRATULATE THE REFEREE”
“There was a very young referee on the field. He truly had a great character. He made good and correct decisions. He controlled the game well. He was accurate with the yellow cards. I congratulate him.”
JOSE MOURINHO’S PRESS CONFERENCE
At the press conference held after the match, Fenerbahçe’s coach Jose Mourinho made striking statements directed at their arch-rivals, Galatasaray.
“ONLY GALATASARAY DOESN’T GET CARDS IN TURKEY”
The Portuguese coach said, “I hope we play more than 50 matches this season. This is what I want. In long seasons, there are injuries and suspensions. In Turkey, only Galatasaray doesn’t get cards. The other teams do.”
