Jose Mourinho Reacts to Fenerbahçe’s 2-1 Victory Over Union SG: “We Put Ourselves in Strange Situations”
Fenerbahçe started their Europa League campaign with a victory over Union SG. Fenerbahçe’s head coach, Jose Mourinho, shared his thoughts on the win, stating that while they put themselves in strange situations after the score reached 2-0, they still managed to secure the victory.
In the UEFA Europa League opener, Fenerbahçe defeated Union SG 2-1 at home with goals from Çağlar Söyüncü in the 27th minute and an own goal by Burgess in the 82nd minute. The yellow and navy-blue team kicked off their European journey with 3 points.
Fenerbahçe coach Jose Mourinho reflected on the win with TRT Spor:
“The most important thing is the 3 points. We didn’t start the game well, but later on, we controlled it very well. The second half was much better than the first half. I liked the second half. In this new format, you can’t calculate how many points you need, so the more you win, the better. After it was 2-0, I must say, you can’t play games with football. Every team fights until the end. We put ourselves in a strange situation. After 2-1, the team showed the game-winning attitude. In the last 5 minutes, we had no issues. You can’t mess around with football.”
