Mourinho: “Fenerbahçe and I Share the Same Hunger for Trophies”
Fenerbahçe head coach Jose Mourinho made statements ahead of their UEFA Europa League match against Twente in the second week of the tournament.
Fenerbahçe will face Twente away tomorrow. Before the match in the second week of the UEFA Europa League, the yellow-dark blue team’s coach held a press conference.
Here are Jose Mourinho‘s comments:
“THEY DEFEND WELL”
“Their strength is playing as a team. You can see the work they’ve put in. They defend well. We will be playing against a very good team. We haven’t been able to train at full intensity, but at least we know what we need to do tactically.”
“I HAVE NO REGRETS”
“I don’t categorize my previous clubs by the level of the platform. Every club has its own goals. There’s no difference between winning La Liga with Real Madrid and winning the Turkish League with Fenerbahçe. I have no regrets about my decision to come here. I’m fully focused on what I want to achieve with the club.”
“THE TURKISH PEOPLE UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN”
“Twenty years ago, I won the Champions League with Porto, and two years ago, I won the Conference League with Roma. My ambitions from 20 years ago are still the same. Fenerbahçe is a club with ambitions. I feel the same fire and hunger inside. Nothing has changed for me except my appearance. Fenerbahçe wants to win trophies. Reaching our goals here is challenging, but the Turkish people understand what I mean. The league presents difficult conditions. In this strange format (Europa League), there are both good and bad things. One good thing is that teams from the Champions League no longer drop into this tournament. We hope to advance past the first stage.”
“TWENTE IS A GOOD TEAM”
“In the past, I often won against Dutch teams because I was managing strong teams. It wasn’t about me, but about the potential of those teams. Matches against Dutch teams were always tough. I like winning, I don’t like losing. Matches against Dutch teams, especially when they play at home, are very challenging. We’ll be playing away against both Twente and AZ, and I’m not pleased with that. Even the airport is an hour away, which adds to the difficulty. Dutch teams have a certain level of pragmatism, and I can say Twente is a very good team.”
