Sofyan Amrabat: “I Made the Right Decision by Choosing Fenerbahçe”
Fenerbahçe's Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat shared insights into his transfer to the yellow-dark blue team, admitting that he had received an offer from Galatasaray at the time.
Ahead of the Super League derby against Beşiktaş, Amrabat gave an exclusive interview to Haber Global, discussing topics ranging from his transfer process and Galatasaray‘s offer to his relationship with head coach Jose Mourinho and thoughts on the upcoming derby.
“I Made a Good Decision by Choosing Fenerbahçe”
Speaking about his transfer, Amrabat said:
“I was in contact with Mr. Acun for a long time. We had discussions for almost two months. I also had a conversation with our coach Jose Mourinho, which made me feel good. After my name was mentioned, our fans sent me wonderful messages. I try to make decisions with my heart, and this was no different. It wasn’t an easy process, but I’m at peace with my choice. I had offers from other clubs, but coming here was the right decision.”
“I Had a Meeting with Galatasaray”
When asked about offers from Galatasaray and other European clubs, Amrabat responded:
“I received many offers, to be honest. Yes, I had a meeting with Galatasaray, but I’m very happy to have joined Fenerbahçe. I won’t name the other clubs I talked to.”
“My Brother Nordin Gave Me Insight About Fenerbahçe”
The Moroccan midfielder revealed that his brother Nordin Amrabat, a former Galatasaray player, played a role in his decision.
“I’m always in touch with my brother. We talk about everything. He gave me valuable information about Turkey, Istanbul, the league, and Fenerbahçe. He told me to ‘listen to your heart,’ and that’s what I did.”
“One of My Reasons for Coming Here Was Mourinho”
Amrabat spoke highly of Jose Mourinho when asked about working with the renowned coach:
“Mourinho is a special person, and we have a great relationship. It’s a unique feeling to have a coach like him want you on his team. That was one of my main reasons for coming here. I’m a player who loves to win, and so is he. I hope we’ll achieve great success together. He’s an amazing coach, excellent at managing players and the atmosphere. Even players who aren’t playing feel ready and valued. That shows we’re a family.”
“We Want to Win the Derby with Confidence”
Commenting on the Beşiktaş match, Amrabat said:
“We know how important the Beşiktaş match is. Even though they’re not in the best form, they have quality players. It will be a tough derby, but we want to continue our good run and win the game with confidence.”
“I Learned a Lot from Van Bronckhorst”
When asked about Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s departure from Beşiktaş, Amrabat remarked:
“We worked together at Feyenoord. He’s a very good coach, and I learned a lot from him. I’m sad about his departure. He started well, but I don’t know why his tenure ended. Results hadn’t been great in recent weeks, but maybe with more time, the outcome would’ve been different.”
