Başakşehir’s Crespo: “If We Can’t Win, I’d Want Fenerbahçe to Be Champions”

Miguel Crespo, who left Fenerbahçe to join Başakşehir at the start of the season, made remarks about his former club. The Portuguese midfielder admitted receiving an offer from a global football giant during his time at Fenerbahçe.

After spending last season on loan at Rayo Vallecano, Crespo parted ways with Fenerbahçe and signed with Başakşehir. Speaking to Ekol TV, he discussed the offer from Atletico Madrid during his time at Fenerbahçe and shared thoughts on the club’s championship struggles. Here’s what he had to say:

WHY DID HE LEAVE FENERBAHÇE?

“This is football; it’s part of the game. A new coach came in, and players arrived and departed. It’s just how football works. We had a preseason camp, and Fenerbahçe opted for other players.”

WHY HAS FENERBAHÇE NOT WON A TITLE IN 10 YEARS?

“That’s a very good question. Honestly, I don’t know the answer. During my time, we had strong squads working very hard to win championships. But in the end, Galatasaray always won by small margins. I can’t say much because I genuinely don’t know. We always missed the title by a narrow margin.”

“If we can’t win the championship, I’d prefer Fenerbahçe to win it.”

WAS THE ATLETICO MADRID RUMOR TRUE?

“Yes, the rumors about Atletico Madrid were true. I had five months left on my Fenerbahçe contract, and I was truly happy there. It was January, just like now. I don’t know why I didn’t leave at that time.”
