Edin Dzeko Slams VAR: “They Were Probably in the Bathroom!”
Fenerbahçe captain Edin Dzeko reacted to the referee and VAR decisions after their 3-2 victory against Trabzonspor.
In the Trendyol Süper Lig match of the week, Fenerbahçe defeated Trabzonspor 3-2 with a goal from Amrabat in the 90+12th minute.
Fenerbahçe captain Edin Dzeko made statements after the match.
EDIN DZEKO: “VAR PROBABLY TOOK A BATHROOM BREAK”
In his statement, Edin Dzeko said, “Today, we played against many people. We managed to win, but we may not always be able to do that. It’s tough to compete against multiple opponents. We saw many very good referees in the new generation. They whistled in our matches too. Authorities should allow young referees to manage matches. No one from above should be allowed to manage the game. If there’s going to be interference from VAR, it should be equal for both sides. VAR probably took 3-4 bathroom breaks during our situations. There was a penalty in our favor, and there was a red card that should have been given to the opponent. They must have been in the bathroom during that time. A penalty should have been given when the hand was so clearly out. There shouldn’t be interference from above in unnecessary situations.”
The experienced forward added, “Of course, those who discuss this situation shouldn’t be us, the players. But it’s hard not to talk when we experience these things every week. We came here with humility last year. The things happening on the field are strange. The referee is a young referee. He can make mistakes. I think he’s 26 years old, 12 years younger than me. He should be given this chance. Let him do his job; mistakes can happen. He will learn, and this is how things should be done.”
