Jose Mourinho Slams VAR Official After Fenerbahçe’s 3-2 Win: “The Man of the Match Was Atilla Karaoğlan”
Fenerbahçe’s head coach, Jose Mourinho, expressed harsh criticism toward VAR referee Atilla Karaoğlan following their 3-2 victory over Trabzonspor.
In this week’s Trendyol Süper Lig match, Fenerbahçe defeated Trabzonspor 3-2 with Amrabat‘s goal in the 90+12th minute, reducing the point gap with Galatasaray to five.
After the match, Fenerbahçe’s coach, Jose Mourinho, evaluated the victory.
In his statement, Mourinho said, “The man of the match was Atilla Karaoğlan, the invisible man. The referee on the field is just a kid. But Atilla Karaoğlan is the man of the match. We don’t want to see him in our games again. Not as VAR, not on the field. Before I came here, many things were told to me, but I didn’t believe them. It’s even worse than I thought.”
Mourinho added, “We played against a good team that fought well, but we are playing against the system. I’m speaking on behalf of all Fenerbahçe fans. That’s why we celebrated with such passion. They only told me half the story before I came. If I’d known the whole story, I wouldn’t have come.”
Jose Mourinho: “Was the Referee Having Coffee?”
Continuing his remarks, Mourinho said, “If the system comes at us even harder, my words will vanish into thin air. Take the incident involving Bright, for example. Was the VAR referee having coffee at that moment? Did he not see it? Or in the situation where he should have given us a penalty, was he having tea? Is that why he missed it? I’m not from here. You Turks need to discuss these things, not me. You need to talk about the years of injustice. We are clean.”
