Mourinho Reflects on Victory: “A Strong Second Half Secured the Win”
Fenerbahçe head coach Jose Mourinho, following the victory against Gaziantep FK, commented on their upcoming schedule, which includes consecutive matches in Istanbul:
“We’ll spend less money. We won’t need to stay in hotels. Derby matches are derby matches. To be honest, Arda Turan, Selçuk İnan, and Çağdaş Atan are the most talented and promising coaches in Turkey,” he said.
In Week 14 of the Süper Lig, Fenerbahçe hosted Gaziantep FK and secured a 3-1 victory. This win marked the Yellow-Navy Blues’ fifth consecutive league victory.
After the match, Fenerbahçe head coach Jose Mourinho shared his thoughts:
“We started the match very strongly. We had opportunities to put the game to bed early but couldn’t capitalize. They have a good coach and a strong team dynamic, and they managed to balance the game after that. We felt the pressure. However, our performance in the second half was exceptionally strong. We took successive shots, made crosses, and looked for openings. It was a well-deserved victory, but I must be honest: I congratulate Selçuk İnan because it was a very tough match,” Mourinho remarked.
Praise for Oğuz Aydın and Dušan Tadic
Continuing his comments, Mourinho stated:
“İrfan suffered a serious injury. He has been recovering step by step to return as quickly as possible, but he is not yet at the peak of his performance. In the second half, I needed speed, so I opted for Maximin. As for Tadić, he can play anywhere; he’s a very intelligent player. When comparing today’s Oğuz Aydın to the player he was at the start of the season, there’s a huge difference. He’s improving significantly and playing to his potential,” he explained.
Mourinho’s Praise for Three Turkish Coaches
The experienced Portuguese coach also commented on their upcoming fixtures, which will see them play consecutive matches in Istanbul:
“We’ll spend less money and won’t need to stay in hotels. Derby matches are always derbies. To be honest, Arda Turan, Selçuk İnan, and Çağdaş Atan are the most talented and promising coaches in Turkey,” he concluded.
